£1 MILLION DEVELOPMENT AMBITION
Exemplar House
Too many people leave long prison sentences facing unstable housing while trauma, mental ill health and addiction remain unresolved. Exemplar House is our proposal for a 16-room specialist Independent Approved Premises that we aim to establish as a Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE), subject to the required Probation Service and clinical partnerships. It would combine dignified accommodation, skilled staff, consistent relationships and purposeful daily structure. Rehabilitation, accountability and public protection would be part of everyday life, creating a stronger bridge from custody into the community.
What the Funding Would Build
The £1 million figure is our initial development ambition for this first house. Funding would help secure and adapt, or build, a suitable 16-room property; create private rooms and welcoming shared spaces; furnish the premises; recruit and train staff; and cover safeguarding, launch costs and an initial operating reserve. We are assessing a long-lease conversion and a purpose-built option. A site-specific budget and final funding target will be published before the crowdfunding campaign launches.
PROJECT STATUS · We are in active discussions with prospective partners and funders to develop Exemplar House, including the property route, Probation Service commissioning pathway and specialist PIPE model. Exemplar Transformation CIC is not yet registered; no property or formal commissioning agreement has been secured, and the £1 million crowdfunding campaign is not live. Conversations with founding partners are open now.
THE WIDER VISION
Beyond Exemplar House, Exemplar Group Ltd intends to develop two separately funded recovery houses. These would offer a 26-week therapeutic group and leadership programme drawing on Eastern contemplative philosophy, third-wave Western psychotherapies and contemporary neuroscience, with appropriately qualified practitioners. The programme would support recovery, emotional regulation, relationships and a renewed sense of identity while helping people unlock dormant potential and transform pain into purpose.
Our ambition is to open pathways for prison leavers to become leaders: first within their communities, and then, for those who choose that path, across business, the arts, education, civic work and local, national and international public life. These recovery houses and their programme sit outside the £1 million Exemplar Transformation CIC appeal.
FUTURE RESEARCH
Exemplar Group is exploring responsible use of AI and emerging brain–computer interface research with academic and clinical partners. This is a longer-term research ambition, subject to evidence, consent and rigorous safeguards; it is not a treatment being offered in either housing project.
VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS
Victims and survivors of crime must help shape this vision. We intend to work with survivor-led partners on safeguarding, accountability and programme design, while creating opportunities for survivors to lead in storytelling, education, enterprise and civic life. Where survivors and prison leavers choose to work towards safer communities together, their participation must be voluntary and carefully supported. Any direct restorative contact would require informed consent, specialist facilitation and a thorough assessment of safety. Our goal is to honour the harm done, support healing and help prevent new victims.

Too many people leave prison carrying unresolved trauma, addiction, damaged relationships, fragile mental health and the institutional effects of prolonged confinement.
Without stable accommodation, meaningful connection and properly coordinated support, release can lead quickly to crisis, breach, recall and further harm.

Exemplar Transformation is developing an integrated pathway combining dignified residential environments, individually planned support, therapeutic groupwork, recovery, practical reintegration, peer leadership and multi-agency coordination.
Its purpose is not simply to accommodate people or manage immediate risk. It is to create the conditions in which people can build stability, responsibility, belonging and a sustainable future.

A connected progression route from intensive structure to therapeutic independence—designed around safety, recovery, responsibility and human potential.
01 - THE INDEPENDENT APPROVED PREMISES
The first residence under Exemplar Transformation CIC will be a carefully designed 16-place Independent Approved Premises. It will combine enhanced structure and public-protection coordination with recovery, therapeutic development and individually planned progression. This will not resemble a low-quality institutional hostel. Its environment will communicate calm, aspiration, responsibility and human worth.
02 - TWO THERAPEUTIC FEEDER HOUSES
Exemplar Group Ltd is developing two smaller therapeutic feeder houses for people ready to progress beyond the intensive structure of the Independent Approved Premises. Residents will practise increasing autonomy while retaining therapeutic groupwork, peer connection, relapse prevention, purposeful routines and coordinated reintegration support.
03 - INDEPENDENT LIVING AND COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
The final stage will support planned progression into secure independent accommodation, education, employment, enterprise, volunteering and sustained community connection. Where appropriate, former residents will return as mentors, facilitators, advisers and leaders—turning personal transformation into wider community capacity.

RECOVERY BEYOND THE PRISON GATE
The pathway will address the interconnected effects of childhood trauma, addiction and imprisonment—including institutionalisation, fractured identity, damaged relationships, hypervigilance and the challenge of rebuilding life beyond custody. Two linked phases—Recovery and Reintegration, followed by Transformation and Leadership—will combine lived-experience leadership with person-centred, trauma-informed practice; therapeutic group factors; CBT-informed skills; ACT; mindfulness; relapse prevention; self-compassion and values-guided action. Residents will strengthen emotional regulation, recovery capital, relationships and practical independence while discovering their capabilities, rebuilding identity and preparing to contribute meaningfully to society.

Exemplar Transformation will remain at the frontier of advances in neuroscience, biology and responsible artificial intelligence—translating emerging knowledge into practical tools for reflection, personalised learning, goal-setting and human development. As human cognition and intelligent technology increasingly converge, we will explore safe and ethical ways for innovation to augment—not replace—human relationships, professional judgment, personal autonomy or consent. Technology will serve a clear purpose: helping residents understand themselves, unlock dormant potential and transform lived pain into purposeful contribution.
